Plug the 2x-7 in for the y in the first equation: 3x-2(2x-7)=9 Distribute the 2: 3x-4x+14=9 Combine like terms and subtract 14 from both sides: -x+14=9 Divide both sides by -1 to make the x positive: x=5 Substitute the 5 into either equation and solve: y=2(5)-7 y=10-7 y=3 Answer: x=5 y=3
